Jan 30 - March 24

Kowalke says about his work, “These images record our families’ time in Italy celebrating our marriage. (Michaela Martin and Peter Kowalke). The small images in silver frames are pen and ink and were the original wedding invitations. The middle size images framed in plexi were done on site in Seggiano at the Villa called Poggio Veluto. The largest images framed in mahogany were also created during the stay in Italy. They reflect the feelings of rebirth and celebration through the images of blossoms, nurturing and the undulation hills of Italy. These images incorporate charcoal from our outdoor oven and clay from the grounds. Ochre, umber and burnt sienna were taken right from the Italian earth. All the larger images contain a bit of wine and chocolate. “ “It is the journey of our nuptials… from invitations sent to 300 friends and family… [pen and ink] art work done pre and post ceremony in the hills of Tuscany…[it is] reflective of a psychological process: James Thurber meets Dali perhaps…”. The artist dedicates the show to his bride, Michaela Martin Kowalke. We hope you enjoy these gestures in pigment capturing the sweet gratitude peace felt in those joyous days.
